CALENDAR GIRLS
2010 could be CALENDAR GIRLS year as it kicks off on one of the largest UK tours ever for a play. After a record breaking 2009, the hit show opens at Chichester Festival Theatre on 27th January, and tours across the UK for the whole of 2010. Lots of theatres are selling tickets fast and already repeat dates have been penciled in for Birmingham's Hippodrome for later in the year. Productions around the world are also planned. The show is a success in Athens (currently showing) and opens in Norway (22nd Jan) and Buenos Aires later in the year, plus a tour of major cities across Australia beginning in April. OUR HOUSE
The show, OUR HOUSE - THE MUSICAL, won Best Musical at the 2003 Laurence Olivier Awards and has only just been released for amateur groups, but already Weinbergers are reporting an unprecedented demand for the show. Australia’s leading theatre producer John Frost will produce the British hit stage show CALENDAR GIRLS in Australia in 2010. Auditions have already taken place and the show will open in Sydney and Melbourne in April 2010. (14/11/09)

NEW CALENDAR GIRLS FOR TOUR
The cast for the new national tour of CALENDAR GIRLS in 2010 is now confirmed.  Lynda Bellingham returns to the show with Gemma Atkinson, Judith Barker, Debbie Chazen, Letitia Dean and Jan Harvey. CALENDAR GIRLS GOES ON TOUR
CALENDAR GIRLS will close at the West End's Noel Coward Theatre on the 9th January, in preparation for a major tour of the UK which will take in most of 2010. The stage adaptation of Tim Firth's hit film broke box office records on tour last year before transferring to the Noel Coward in the spring of 2009, where it continued to break box office records. CALENDAR GIRLS 10th Anniversary
A group of the original CALENDAR GIRLS celebrated the 10th anniversary of their decision to strip - and are preparing to launch their new calendar next month. The women's fundraising has topped almost £2 million over the past decade and a BBC Inside Out documentary, shown last night, documented how they came to produce the calendar in the modest hope of raising enough money to buy a sofa for a hospital waiting room. This Spring sees a rare event - a comedy undergoing a Doctor Who style transformation. KINKY BOOTS
BBC2 will be showing Tim Firth's movie, KINKY BOOTS on Sunday 4th January at 10pm. The film, stars Joel Edgerton as a shoe factory owner and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the drag queen Lola who comes to the rescue of the ailing factory. As this weekend's Guardian says, " You'd have to be 'soleless' to dislike this sweet comedy." (03/01/09)

BBC will show a second series of Movie Connections in the new year. CALENDAR GIRLS, starring Julie Walters and Helen Mirren will be one of the movies featured in the series and is provisionally scheduled for broadcast on 21st January. (16/12/08)

CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC
Tim Firth's latest film, CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC, will be released early next year. The film, which is a romantic comedy, is an adaptation of Sophie Kinsella's novels and stars Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers), Hugh Dancey, Krysten Ritter and Joan Cusack. LEADING LADIES STRIP OFF FOR CHARITY.
Leading ladies Lynda Bellingham and Patricia Hodge will be stripping off in the West End to help raise thousands of pounds for charity. The actresses, along with fellow cast members Sian Phillips, Gaynor Faye, Elaine C. Smith and others, are the stars of Calendar Girls, the stage show based on the true story of members of the Rylstone and District Women's Institute who produced a nude version of the local WI calendar to raise money for charity. For weeks the show has been playing to packed houses on a UK tour. Now it's coming into London's Noel Coward Theatre, where it will run from 4 April 2009. Instead of the ticket booking fee going on 'administration', it will go directly to Leukaemia Research. The ladies will take a six-week break over Christmas into late January and then rehearse cuts and changes made by writer Tim Firth and director Hamish McColl. KINKY BOOTS - The Musical?
KINKY BOOTS, Tim Firth's comedy and 2006 Miramax film release has been acquired for the stage by veteran Broadway producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, who aim to turn it into a Broadway musical. After seeing "Kinky Boots" at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006, Roth was attracted to its theatrical possibilities and acquired the stage rights from Disney. (24/07/08)

NEVILLE'S ISLAND - SWEDISH OUTDOOR THEATRE
Ystads Stående Teatersällskap will perform Tim Firth's comedy NEVILLE'S ISLAND at Marsvinsholm Castle, near Ystads in Sweden during late June through till August 10th. The production is an adaptation of Sophie Kinsella's comedy novels and stars Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers), Hugh Dancey, Krysten Ritter and Joan Cusack. The storyline revolves around a college graduate who nurtures a shopping addiction and falls for a wealthy entrepreneur and the film will be directed by P.J. OUR HOUSE didn't just win the Olivier Award for Best New Musical, it was an instant smash hit, winning the hearts of London's West End. FLINT STREET NATIVITY
THE FLINT STREET NATIVITY is to be the Liverpool Playhouse's Christmas show for the second year in a row! The seasonal comedy, which last year broke box office records and became the theatres most successful Christmas show ever, has been confirmed for the 2007/08 season. The young pupils of Flint Street Primary School, all played by adults, perform the nativity play for their parents. The story is based on real events, collected over the years from Tim's family and friends who were all teachers. (15/04/07)

SONGWRITING COURSE
Tim Firth will co-tutor a songwriting course with Willy Russell at Ty Newydd, the National Writer's Centre for Wales. Although students will not be expected to have a formal training in music, the course will involve a strong element of performance and each student will be expected to have sufficient musical ability to accompany him or herself on a chosen instrument. Both CALENDAR GIRLS and KINKY BOOTS are on UK TV over the Christmas Holiday. The wonderful CALENDAR GIRLS, starring Julie Walters and Helen Mirren (amongst others) is on BBC1 on Christmas Eve (9.30pm). Tim's most recent film, KINKY BOOTS, with two great perfomances from Chiwetel Ejiofo and Joel Edgerton is on Sky Movies 2 on Boxing Day. (23/12/06)

THE FLINT STREET NATIVITY is breaking box office records at the Liverpool Playhouse. Tim's Christmas nativity, adapted from his television play, is a huge success and playing to packed houses. The Flint Street Nativity now has its very own shop window in Liverpool - much to the amusement of passers-by and people stuck in traffic! The shop window in Liverpool's busy Lime Street, was high-jacked last week by the cast. Liverpool residents can now purchase theatre tickets in Lewis’s department store. (21/11/06)

 

LIVERPOOL PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES CAST FOR FLINT STREET NATIVITY
With the start of rehearsals less than a month away, the casting process is nearly complete for the Liverpool Playhouse Christmas show. Natalie Casey (Hollyoaks, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) will be donning a tea-towel as our Shepherd while Neil Caple (Brookside), who was last seen at Liverpool in Unprotected, will be playing both Herod and Joseph. Due to a bout of chicken pox at the school, Neil is not the only child to play two roles as Nick Bagnall will be both the Star and the Ass. Flint Street’s Angel will be played by Rina Mahoney (Casualty) and Anabelle Dowler, who also last appeared in Liverpool in The Mayor of Zalamea, will come bearing gifts as a Wise Man. PRESTON FRONT - Series Three

Preston Front - Back To The Front, a half-hour feature, will be included on the DVD release of PRESTON FRONT - Series Three. The specially filmed footage gives fans an opportunity to catch up with the actors who inhabited their favourite characters from the hit BBC TV series and includes Tim Firth in conversation with members of the original cast. Tim Firth's new play ABSOLUTELY FRANK opened this weekend at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. ABSOLUTELY FRANK began as a one act play - A MAN OF LETTERS - which was commissioned by Alan Ayckbourn and performed at the Stephen Joseph in 1991. KINKY BOOTS nominated for three awards

KINKY BOOTS has been nominated for three British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). The nominations are Tim Firth and Geoff Dean for BEST SCREENPLAY, Chiwetel Ejiofor for BEST ACTOR and Julian Jarrold for DEBUT DIRECTOR. The winners will be announced at the 8th Annual BRITISH INDEPENDENT FILM AWARDS to be held on Wednesday 30 November at Hammersmith Palais, London.

 

FLINT STREET NATIVITY - DVD Release / 31 October

The Flint Street Nativity will be released on DVD this weekend. The UK's finest comedy actors take the leading roles as eight year old performers in a primary school nativity play. Tim Firth has just finished working on a new movie. One small change to the script in Tim Firth's NEVILLE'S ISLAND as it opens at Birmingham Rep. "I got a call from the director Paul Raffield, who was actually in the first production of Neville's Island, and he said "we have a problem with the mobile phone". Over the last ten years or so mobile phones have shrunk so much that a scene in which one of the men kills a trout by hitting it over the head with a mobile phone would no longer work. COMPANION OF LIPA

Tim will be honoured with a Companionship of the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts at a special ceremony this coming Friday (30 July). The award will be presented by Sir Paul McCartney. LIPA awards companionships to individuals in recognition of their contributions to the world of art and entertainment. Willy Russell will also receive a similar award on the same day.

 

TRAPPED is the title of a trio of single comedy plays Tim has devised

The Calendar Girls Story is a new book that tells the real story behind the photo-shoot that started the Calendar Girls phenomenon. Tim will appear in a BBC4 documentary which pays tribute to the life and
work of Jack Rosenthal. Jack, who died earlier this year, was one of British
television's most successful comedy dramatists and created classic tv plays The Knowledge, Spend Spend Spend, Bar Mitzvah Boy and The Evacuees. Tim credits Jack with being one of the key pioneers of the genre of comedy drama and was a huge fan of his work. The programme will broadcast on BBC4 on July 18 at 8.00pm. (8/07/04)

Tim has been awarded a Companionship of the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts 2004. LIPA awards companionships to individuals in recognition of their contributions to the world of art and entertainment, particularly within the sectors to which LIPA is linked. The award will be presented at a special ceremony at LIPA on 30 July.

Tim Firth and Willy Russell are continuing to receive critical acclaim for their innovative stage show, IN OTHER WORDS. The two playwrights/singer - songwriters blend spoken word from their plays with songs from their albums HOOVERING THE MOON and HARMLESS FLIRTING, and have created a quite unique musical show. They played four shows in succession during the past few days. A free show was arranged at LIPA - Liverpool (were three of the band are second year degree students) and then shows in York (Friday), Hay Festival (Saturday) - the band played to a capacity audience of 1600 in the Channel4 Marquee - and Northampton on Sunday night.
