“The stage version of CALENDAR GIRLSachieves the rare & pleasing feat of outstripping the film both in terms of heart & humour. One of the most enjoyable evenings recent theatre has produced” - Evening Standard
At first glance it should
look like your classic WI calendar. Jams, cakes, sewing and all
that. Except for one tiny thing...the ladies are not naked, theyre
nude. A group of extraordinary women, members of a very ordinary
WI, persuade one another to pose for a charity calendar with
a difference.
Puzzling their husbands, mortifying their children and riding
the wrath of the outraged WI, they achieve their goal of raising
money for charity, but inadvertently spark a global phenomenon.
Adapted by Tim Firth from
his smash-hit film of the same name, Calendar Girls is quirky,
poignant and hilarious.

"Brilliant. A real treat. Not to be missed"
Frank Tollit puts up giant
letters on the sides of buildings.
From a forty foot 'IKEA' to a five foot 'Comet', Frank's been
the master for thirty years. But in his heart, he always yearned
to work with slightly smaller letters...novels. Spy novels, in
fact. Stories of espionage, treachery, unexpected encounters
in dangerous places, disasters, explosions and daring rescues.
Problem is, they never felt authentic. That is, until the day
Frank turned up for work and found all those things starting
to happen for real. A comedy about a fifty-seven year old man
of letters learning the greatest lesson in life - how to live
happily ever after. SIGN OF THE TIMES is a comedy that has undergone considerable transformation.Previously it was titled Absolutely Frank, and that began as a one act play A Man Of Letters which was commissioned by Alan Ayckbourn and performed at
the Stephen Joseph in 1991.
The 2006 & 2007 Christmas show at the Liverpool Playhouse.
Natalie Casey (Hollyoaks, Two Pints of Lager and
a Packet of Crisps) will be donning a tea-towel as our Shepherd
while Neil Caple (Brookside), who was last seen at Liverpool
in Unprotected, will be playing both Herod
and Joseph. Due to a bout of chicken pox at the school, Neil
is not the only child to play two roles as Nick Bagnall will be both the Star and the Ass. Flint Street’s Angel
will be played by Rina Mahoney (Casualty) and Anabelle
Dowler, who also last appeared in Liverpool in The Mayor
of Zalamea, will come bearing gifts as a Wise Man.
